On Achievable Rates for Channels with Mismatched Decoding

چکیده

The problem of mismatched decoding for discrete memoryless channels is addressed. A mismatched cognitive multiple-access channel is introduced, and an inner bound on its capacity region is derived using two alternative encoding methods: superposition coding and random binning. The inner bounds are derived by analyzing the average error probability of the code ensemble for both methods and by a tight characterization of the resulting error exponents. Random coding converse theorems are also derived. A comparison of the achievable regions shows that in the matched case, random binning performs as well as superposition coding, i.e., the region achievable by random binning is equal to the capacity region. The achievability results are further specialized to obtain a lower bound on the mismatch capacity of the single-user channel by investigating a cognitive multiple access channel whose achievable sum-rate serves as a lower bound on the single-user channel’s capacity. In certain cases, for given auxiliary random variables this bound strictly improves on the achievable rate derived by Lapidoth. A. Gaussian Intersymbol Interference Channels With Mismatch

This paper considers the problem of channel coding over Gaussian intersymbol interference (ISI) channels with a given metric decoding rule. Specifically, it is assumed that the mismatched decoder has an incorrect assumption on the impulse response function. The mismatch capacity is the highest achievable rate for a given decoding rule. Existing lower bounds to the mismatch capacity for channels...

On information rates for mismatched decoders

Reliable transmission over a discrete-time memoryless channel with a decoding metric that is not necessarily matched to the channel (mismatched decoding) is considered. I t is assumed that the encoder knows both the true channel and the decoding metric. The lower bound on the highest achievable rate found by Csiszar and Komer and by Hui for DMC’s, hereafter denoted C,,, is shown to bear some in...

Channel capacity of polar coding with a given polar mismatched successive cancellation decoder

Arıkan’s polar coding, is by now a well studied technique that allows achieving the symmetric capacity of binary input memoryless channels with low complexity encoding and decoding, provided that the polar decoding architecture is used and the decoding metric is matched to the true channel. In this paper, we analyze communication rates that are achievable when the polar coding/decoding architec...

Multiuser Coding Techniques for Mismatched Decoding

This paper studies multiuser coding techniques for channel coding with a given (possibly suboptimal) decoding rule. For the mismatched discrete memoryless multiple-access channel, error exponents are obtained which are tight with respect to the ensemble average, and positive within the interior of Lapidoth’s achievable rate region. In the special case of maximum-likelihood decoding, the ensembl...

Mismatched decoding revisited: General alphabets, channels with memory, and the wide-band limit

The mismatch capacity of a channel is the highest rate at which reliable communication is possible over the channel with a given (possibly suboptimal) decoding rule. This quantity has been studied extensively for single-letter decoding rules over discrete memoryless channels (DMCs). Here we extend the study to memoryless channels with general alphabets and to channels with memory with possibly ...
